The Office Next Door

I spend my days with a group of people
who are courteous, appreciative,
very funny and hard working.

Many of them are at the start of their careers
but have already made significant contributions
to research in their specialist field.

I admire them for their energy
and their commitment to worthwhile causes
all over the world.

And if they have brilliant minds
I don't think it matters
that they are chronically untidy.

Especially if it makes my office
look like a Zen zone.

Oh my. I would have to clean things up before I could even think about working in that office space!! Lol!!

Me too--I can't even make a pot of coffee in the morning unless the kitchen counters are clean!

Have I mentioned that I've spent several afternoons, at my new job, cleaning?

I would not be able to think with all the clutter :)

Good Lord
such a contrast to the image of your workspace!

Oh my, I couldn't work or think with that clutter. I don't need a zen office, I like to think mine has a creative amount of mess, but there is a limit to the 'creativity' I can handle all over my floor/desk/shelves.

That portrait of "Wellies, affectionate" is stunning!

Fab! Can I blame my untidiness on a brilliant mind too then? I'm not quite as messy as them, so perhaps I'll just claim an active one instead.

I'm here to prove one can be dim-witted, make zero contributions to research, commit to nothing, completely ignore worthwhile causes...AND be chronically untidy as well.

Represent!

Great, makes my house (and mess) feel quite mediocre, really! Though I wouldn't go as far as saying zen-like....I wish!

Love your blog. Came over from Anne B.. I am a bit untidy, not as bad I hope, but my boss used to ask me to tidy my desk occassionally (I guess that is pretty bad!)

I would be one of the chronically untidy ones. Correction I am one of the chronically untidy.

Just as well our marriage is based on the attraction of opposites ;-)

My filing system is based on the fact that I normally have a good memory so I can remember where everything is. Sort of extension of Pelmanism is any can remember that game.

I have turned over a new leaf recently though - honest

Now I am untidy - but that would dement me!

That has reassured me about my horrendously untidy workspace.. which I can't abide but somehow can't avoid. I forget to put things away or clean up when I'm creating!

See, I knew my congenital untidiness was masking brilliance. And now I spend my time trying to conquer the mess, all my intelligence has disappeared ...

(And I've just realised Ali said almost exactly the same thing, which makes me feel even more daft for repeating it!)
