Another World

Sunday Morning

MissM and I go to the V&A to see
In the dark space of the exhibition rooms
everyone talks in hushed whispers
as we admire the art of
Dior, Balenciaga, Balmain, Fath, Hardy Amies.

It is a celebration of beauty, elegance and wealth.

Layers of fine fabric
suspended above
padding, boned corsets and petticoats.

The dresses seem to be from another world
distant in time and space

And then I remember...
my mother had a pink brocade ball gown
in the style of Dior.

I love the suit, it is beautiful. Well made is well made and always in fashion. I am a big fan of vintage clothing. When I first started working, all my clothes were vintage. Everyonce in awhile there was something really well made with style. When I was in my teens my Aunt showed me all the suits she had kept from when she worked. She was a fashion goddess and they were beautiful. I love suits. What a nice way to spend a day.

I may have to visit that exhibition - such inspiration! Every so often I resolve to stop slouching around in jeans and fleeces, and to only wear skirts and dresses for a while. And then a small person uses me as a hand towel and I thank goodness I was not wearing a dry clean only outfit ...

I wish I lived in times like that! Everyone "dressed" to go places and took extreme care - of course, if I had a butler, and a cook, and a maid, and a nanny . . .
