It is cold outside and the ground is soft with damp autumn leaves. Poppy slips in and out of the shadows under the the hedgerow and my face brushes the silvery spider's web. Dark against the rise of the meadow I see the silhouette of a fox; it walks away slowly and then patiently waits, unafraid. The lights shimmer on the far horizon and in the woods an owl calls.

Beautifully written.
Oh, how lovely, Alice: just lovely.
We are lucky here to have barred owls nesting within earshot, and at this time of year get to listen to them calling, as they say here, "who cooks for you, who cooks for you all". Quite magical.

Oh, that description gave me shivers. Thank you. The season is definitely changing here, too.
Thank you for your kind comments - now I know that I don't always need a picture!
Just lovely.
I saw an owl swooping over the fields outside the village one night - completely silent, and quite awe inspiring.
Wow, that reminds me of my woods, and I saw an owl just recently too. I walk every night after work. Beautiful imagery.
