When I was a little girl
the Parish Priest would visit our home once a year,
always on Shrove Tuesday.
He would sit at our kitchen table
and eat my mother's pancakes until he could eat no more.
Now, a lifetime later,
I watch my daughter mix the batter
but it doesn't seem so very long ago,
that scrubbed pine table with the four little children

your pancakes look delicious, Miss M did a great job
I know what you mean about the pancakes not taking so long. I remember by big sis making pancakes when I was young and it always seemed like they would take *forever* to mix, sit and bake...
(BTW - you may remember me from your Venice post. Happy to say we've booked our accomadation though not where you stayed. I hunted around and found a cool little hotel right on a canel. Can't wait to visist. I lurk here often, I'm delurking officially today...)
STARVING!
Now I have to jump out of bed...
Alice, I'm shocked. Shocked, I tell you. It's Lent - what are you doing eating pancakes?! (says she, off to make some hot chocolate - low cal, of course)
and those are indeed delicious looking pancakes. Unfortunately, Boo and Skibo's palates are too unsophisticated to appreciate the subtleties of English style pancakes, sprinkled with sugar, with lemon juice squeezed from on high with that extra little flourish --- at the moment they'd rather American style flapjacks, piled high, and dripping in maple syrup. A worthy dish, 'tis true, but hardly the equivalent.
Thanks for the memories:-)
Well done, Miss M!

Very sweet post, Alice...Happy Day ((HUGS))
Mmmm, I want to go and make some right now, even thought we only had them last week!
What a nice memory and tradition! They look delicious - but wait - do I see a saint's image on that pancake? It's a miracle! (You didn't eat it, did you?)
Ooooooh, and the sugar, sprinkled on the plate . . . yum. I'll take two, please!
