ChezMagpie-on-Sea

MrsM has been pondering the benefits of a seaside cottage.
She could drink Sea Breeze cocktails
and watch the sun sink over the horizon
and recapture some of her childhood
strolling along the clifftops.

There are so many wonderful properties
....and so many potential pitfalls

MasterM would love the gym
but MrsM thinks
!!Coastal Erosion!!

MissM could roller blade on the prom
but MrsM thinks
!!Rising Sea Levels!!

MrM could sing without anyone hearing
but MrsM thinks
!!Electricity Bills!!

Smugglers Cottage, Pagham, West Sussex
in 1,500 acres of mudflats, lagoons and salt marshes

Poppy would frolic in 1,500 acres of Nature Reserve
but MrsM thinks
!!Mudflats - I don't think so!!

Stylish and Spacious
but MrsM thinks
!!Errr...New Dressing Gown Alert!!

Joan's Cottage, Talland Hill, Polperro

Small but cute in village location
but MrsM thinks
!!This one belongs to Steph!!

Great seaside views; easy access to water
privacy; potential for development.

MrsM thinks
!!Hmmm...possibly...!!

Oooh, a Snugglers Cottage... choose that one! Snuggling for everyone!

Such a shame - problems with each and every one. Perhaps you should go up a notch, price-wise.

I love the sound of a smugglers cottage on mud flats.

THe last one looks like it just needs someone to hit it with a champagne bottle and it could launch right out to sea!

I was thinking the same as Tracey, it would float off with a good shove :) I love how you always capture such amazing images - with your camera, from the web, from anywhere. You have such a good eye for imagery.

Yes that last one looks dodgy.

And my god mud flats get smelly.

But don't be put off the idea!

oo yes, seabreeze cocktails and lungfuls of fresh salty sea air...hmmmmm yes, a bit tricksy to decide on an abode for the Magpie nest when everywhere brings you out in !!'s.

When it comes to being directly on the coast I always think of 1953, not that I was around then but the floods in this area were so devastating and so quick that they seem too have created somekind of collective memory.

I would love to live by the sea...but your words about coastal erosion and rising sea levels reflect my own fears....I feel safer inland...if only I was a little more daring.

Why are you dithering? Smuggler's Cottage! Smuggler's Cottage!

We have been having similar thoughts about a place by the sea but decided we might be better off renting places for holidays instead - that way we can sample cocktails, mudflats and smuggler's cottages and still come back inland!

I have had a closer look at the Smuggler's Cottage - not with a view to purchase I hasten to add - and am not at all sure if SC is the building on the left or the right. An alternative construction ('scuse pun) is that the building on the right is either the garage or the place where the aforementioned smuggler (male or female - we are equal opportunities in all things) stashed the loot.

Frankly I think it is rather shoddy blurb and photo from the estate agent concerned but that would not be a first of course.

You can't beat the salty sea air...and the screeching seagulls for your early morning alarm call...but then you know that!!

I think the last one is heading off on an adventure ...

All gorgeous - but as a couple who both independently have always harboured the ambition to eventually live in a building which wasn't originally built to be a house/home the lifeboat station gets our vote - Nigel's gut reaction was "straight out of bed into the canoe and down the slope into the water" - me? well as long as I could plug in the sewing machine I'd be happy - shame the sell by date has passed!

Well that or the lookout tower at Dungeness

Mud flats can stink. Cairns is built right near mud flats. (People don't realise this until they visit.) That's why we live 'outside' of Cairns so we have our own lovely beach...

I liked Tracey's comment. Made me laugh outloud.

Why would Mr M want somewhere where he might sing without being heard?
