Did I really say that?

Scene: Italian Restaurant

MissM
What is Rigatoni?
MrM
It is like Penne
but bigger
and with ridges
MissM
Why don't we have them at home?
MasterM
We used to
but Mummy banned them.
MissM
Why?
MasterM
It was after the incident with the peas.

She said that if she wanted us
to learn how to use blowpipes
she would have brought us up
in the Amazonian Rain Forest.

Have you been watching my children eating by any chance?!!!

Ha! Wish I could be so witty when the peas are flying.

And yes, Little Lad always asks for "the pasta you can make a whistle out of."

I will smile now, when I see them on the Supermarket shelf (but maybe not buy them)!

Sounds like an idyllic childhood without a curare in the world ;-)

You know I want to try that now... but fear I will be a bad example to my children.

oh LOL Alice, I am nearly wetting my pants laughing here. Like Gina said, I badly want to try this now too...we always have rigatoni in (Little Peoples pasta shape of choice as it happens) but will have to buy peas.
Thanks for such inspiration

The interesting point about this story is that it is the first time I have heard it. Nowadays MasterM and MissM are quite civilized savages, well most of the time anyway

Final thought - if the ridges had been on the inside it would have been like a rifle barrel which would have given greater accuracy and range of the projectile ...

Oh I think you should be VERY proud of your response.

It obviously had an impact!

I love that.
Obviously some things do stick.

you know... I'm Italian. I love rigatoni. I love peas.

But I never thought of putting them together that way.

The things you learn in blogland.

I'm laughing because it happened at your table and not mine!

Hi Alice and thanks for visiting my blog. What a coincidence that you grew up in Falmouth? Do you ever get back to visit I wonder? xx

That's it, I'm off to buy rigatoni and peas tomorrow. This sort of food fun is right up my boys' street (8 and 13). Perhaps we'd better wait until their father is out!

You KNOW you did say it. I only read your blog regularly and I can HEAR you saying it!

I'm only laughing because my daughters haven't worked this one out yet. If/when they do, the rigatoni will become penne and the peas will become broadbeans.

Lovely image: I may have to switch to rigatoni just to be able to ban it for the children;-)

Note to self: Never serve rigatoni with peas. Never.
