MasterM and his pals are enjoying a beverage or two
in their favourite hostelry which we shall call
'The Hopping Elephant'.
They decide to text the young Latin teacher
who is known to live nearby and invite him for a drink.
Imagine the scene:
5 young lads clustered around a mobile phone
composing a suitable text message in Latin.
Sadly, the young Latin teacher could not join them
because he was writing school reports "ut semper*".
(It is good to know that MasterM's education was not wasted.)

welcome back!
I hope they used 'predictive' text.
That always looks like latin even if it isn't...or maybe greek?
Welcome back from me too...
They must like the teacher to want to have a beer with him!
Welcome back we missed you!
You can just imagine how hilarious they thought they were! (Well... they were!)
you must be very proud
I am quite certain that texting is what those Romans had in mind.
complete anachronism
Personally I think that is must have been 'Sicut semper' but we get the general drift.
I once had to translate 'I have a cunning plan' into Latin which I chose to do as "Consilium callidissimi vulpis concipio" on the basis that would be extremely cunning. It was a rather slow Friday afternoon that day of course.
PS - was the Elephant hopping because it saw a mouse or was it just a bit mad ?
Don't mean to brag, but I could've texted that in Pig Latin quite easily. Thanks to my "Lackadaisical Education."
And now I will join in the chorus...Welcome Back Alice!!
Lovely to read you again and I am amused by the idea of a latin text message, perhaps that would make more sense to this dinosaur who has such trouble with the common abbreviations used in text messages.
I never knew all those years of Latin could be so useful--now if I only could remember any of it! Welcome back from me, too! K x
Should make the heart of their old Latin master swell (obviously just before his headpopped at teh whole concept of texting!)
word verif: cessiom. Surely some conjugation of the verb cesare?
Welcome back Alice, I've missed you! I did latin at school...and barely remember a word of it!
Welcome back Alice...I missed you...My other half had the classical education...I am the arty farty self taught....
oh gosh. I did Latin. For five years. And ancient Greek.
That was very useful. Especially to beat my husband at University Challenge on a weekly basis.
He answers 'Byron' to every question....
