Look Away Now...

So...

I went back to the shop

(secretly)

And tried on The Gilet.

(insert primal scream here)

It made me look like a grubby snowman.

(scream again...go on...share my pain)

But.
That.
Is.
Not.
The.
Worst.
Thing.

Oh No!!

I realised that MissM KNEW how bad I would look
and because she is so kind and sweet natured
she decided not to undermine my confidence.

SO SHE BLAMED THE WEATHER.

The HUMILIATION is so great,
so all-encompassing,
that I may not go shopping for clothes again

EVER.

Well at least that's settled. Now you can get some sleep.

Clothing causes you to lose sleep doesn't it? or is that just me?

Shame 'though.

Oh, dear lord.
One bad gilet (and yes, I had to look it up) does not spell the end of the world. Thank GOD for Miss M.. Had you been shopping with my mother, for example, she would have said something like: go ahead! buy it if you like it, but it reminds ME of dirty snow.

and where, of course did MissM learn such tact and care? Obviously she had a GREAT example right in front of her.

Now, just for keeping it real.. the magic word is shelp.. can they not spell shlep?

Who needs Gok when you've got a Miss M? And a tactful one too. I should have made her weed my wardrobe while she was here. Damn, missed opportunity.

I think the most important thing is that the gilet is now out of your system. And trust me, I've had my share of horrid dressing room experiences! K x

Dwell on the positives:you got it on. (In my world that would be a major shopping triumph.)

She showed her good breeding with her tact and sensitivity.

Alice, we've all been there. Nothing to be humiliated about...and MissM is very generous. It's not polite or kind for someone to say you look ghastly in something. x

Dear, kind Miss M, I very much hope my children develop her tact and sensitivity rather than taking after my Technical Advisor who has a long list of insensitive clothes/hair related comments to his bow. One memorable such comment on a new haircut with fringe, "it makes your face look fatter". It was the "fatter" part that really stung with its implication that a fat face was something I must surely be used to!!

Just in case you all think a preparing an online petition for early canonisation of MissM I should point out that is much terser with her father when we go shopping together. Not sure why, but the next trip is coming up soon (and the gilet is not on the wish list)

verification word : blesses - perhaps it should have a d at the end nistead

I admire MissM. I wish I had her skill. Because my mother looks like a complete madwoman most days and I have been completely unable to prevent it.

Oh No! Well maybe it was good of her to blame the weather. Don't worry you just must always take her with you when you shop.

I always get the teen approval before I leave the house. It always is very helpful!

Sometimes the item you think you want doesn't turn out to be the one that suits. I've had that happen so many times! The mind's eye is a naughty sausage - imagining many things to be ideal, perfect, stylish. Well done Miss M for such tact.

Well I'm glad you are being pragmatic about it!

What a delightful, well mannered and well brought up young lady to be so sensitive and tactful. Shame about the gilet though!

Alice, This post just makes me love you all the more.

Grubby snowman...I can't stop laughing!

Having met MissM, and having seen her fab style...I would say you are a very, very lucky mum to have such a sweet and stylish daughter.

Though--I commend you on taking a fashion risk. Sometimes they do pay off!

Ahhh! Bless her!! i'm sorry that the gilet wasn't all you expected it to be though :(

Unfortunately my children would have secretly sniggered and let me buy the danged thing.

Oh dear -- it is my secret horror that my children will come to notice all my visual shortcomings. So far they seem to think I look okay, but it's only a matter of time . . .

I am so pleased you went back and tried it on, even if it wasn't as you remembered.

Well done MissM for being so tactful.

I think you should be proud of the sensitivity and diplomacy your daughter showed!!!

My lot would have simply said 'mum, you look blah'... and trust me that is not nice to hear!!
