This year my paeonies have been battered and bruised
by the wind and the rain.
There was more rain yesterday afternoon
and so I picked this perfect paeony
to bring indoors.
The plate that it lies on is
Peony by Wedgwood.
It was manufactured in 1815.
Jane Austen was still writing novels
when this plate was used for the first time.

Mine are done now so it's a pleasure to see yours.
The plate makes me gasp just a little.
I love peonies AND old Wedgwood. Two lovely things in one post? Delightful.
Absolutely gorgeous--the peony and the Wedgwood :) K x
My favourite flower.
On an very beautiful plate.
beautiful peony and beautiful plate. I love to ponder the lifetimes of inanimate objects and think of the people who've used and enjoyed them across time - it's a little humbling!
Imagine who could have eaten from that plate in the past...
My paeonies are always battered by the wind and rain every year as soon as they bloom I know the weather is bound to take a turn for the worse. They are still my all time favourite flower though.
My peonnies are long gone. Your picture is beautiful. The china too. I love blue and white dishes! they are my favorite :)
The plate and peony make a beautiful combination - lovely to imagine the history of objects.
Goodness, that's quite a thought ...
Oh my goodness - both are gorgeous. I adore Wedgewood...
Ah yes, the gentle art of flower rescuing (and china appreciation).
oh that is something so cool to think about!
Love it.
How beautiful!
