Miss Charming

MissM had a silver charm bracelet for her birthday
with lots of empty rings.

And so, before Christmas,
MrsM made a secret visit
to an antique jewellers.

It was such fun to look though the tray of charms
and wonder who had owned them before.
The shop owner was entranced too
and picked out charms to tempt MrsM.

After much discussion
a winged Pegasus, a tiny mouse house and a cheeky robot
were wrapped in tissue paper
to rattle on her wrists
and make her friends smile.

In January, MrsM and MissM returned to the antique shop
with Christmas money
and discovered an Aladdin's lamp with a genie inside
and a carriage suitable for a Heyer heroine.

MrsM is struggling with her conscience
because for two pins
(or maybe even less than that)
she would have a charm bracelet of her own.

But you can't copy your daughter.

Can you?

I think if MrsM plays her cards right she might get one for a wedding anniversary in two years time ...

Have to keep them keen I say ;-)

Copy away, I say! Your bracelet could feature little gilet and driving-glove charms. (LOVE that robot.)

It is not copying - it is flattering. The most sincere form of love.

TWO YEARS, MrM... two years. By then MrsM should be onto her second bracelet!

Love the 'Smash' style robot! My mother has a silver charm bracelet with a charm for each country she has visited. When I was small, I used to love hearing the story behind each one.

And that MrM gets cheekier by the day!

Alice, you already have enough charm to fill a thousand charm bracelets...

Shhhh...*whispers*...MrM...Are you listening?...Sooner rather than later...

I guess that depends on the daughter - Sarah has one she received for her baptism from my parents with two or three charms on - maybe now's the time to pull it out and pass it on to her

Yes! Yes! You've reminded me of my mum's charm bracelet, and how we adored one particular shoe charm that opened up to show a tiny mouse inside.

I wonder whether she still has it.

Oh I think you can. I have my late mum's gold bracelet, similarly complete with an Aladdin's lamp and The Old Woman Who Lived In A Shoe (along with all of her children). My favourite charm was always the bicycle because the wheels and handlebars move.

Delurk or I very much fear that the cheeky monkey may get it

Oh you can! I think I might copy her too, it's so pretty and reminds me of how much I once wanted a charm bracelet, way back in the distance past. You have re-ignited me.

How lovely. Although it brings back sad memories of my grandmother's charm bracelet which I inherited and which was consequently stolen in a burglery. I had always loved looking at all the different charms as a child.

Two years Mr M... it's Valentine's day next month!

Oh you can totally copy. After all it was your idea to start off with right? :)

I have a charm braclet from my childhood, I think I was 6 when it was given to me, and I still remember the absolute delight of chosing charms or receiving them as gifts.I rarely wear it these days as the jingle of charms drives me to distraction but I still adore it. Yes get a charm bracelet and start a new collection of memories.

Of course you (or preferably MrM) can! And such amazing charms--I'm sure each one has a wonderful story behind it. Really puts my ordinary Links charms to shame :( K x

Ooooh.

I have a charm bracelet somewhere, and also with a bicycle charm whose handlebars move. Where is it?

I do like the mouse house.

If you had different charms, you could swap .. and if one day you have two granddaughters, there won't be a problem with heirlooms ... ?! x

well, it all depends. Am I going to go out and buy a pair of pink legwarmers like the ones the Eldest Latte wears? No. Should you get a charm bracelet? Yes.

The Owl and the Pussycat charm MissM and I spotted purchasing MrsM's Christmas present (excellent shop - they event do gift wrapping for folk like me) was very cute with a moving sail. Not sure if Poppy would like to TAC though

YES! YOU! CAN!!
Put it this way :: if I can love and wear plastic beaded jewelery intended for four year old daughters then yes you can wear antique silver charms. With pride.
In the words of Mrs Doyle "go on, go on, go on!!!!!!!"

We bought Polly a charm bracelet two years ago in Austria...we decided to collect charms from our travels ( the little green van went everywhere that summer)...I have to say I get far more out of this charm collecting than Poll and after visiting an antique jewellers in Whitby (where we bought an adorable vintage donkey) my desire to have one grew and grew and you have now fed the monster...but its not the done thing when your daughter is 12...or so I am told by my 12 year old...My desire stems from childhood, Mum has one which I played with as a child..... many hints have been dropped over the last 40 years but never noted or responded to...but April and my birthday are coming...its not as if I have lots of lovely jewels already........ha ha ha
by the way.... know just what you mean about poinsettias

oh my goodness!
My daddy bought me that boots and mouse charm, I think from germany. I have a charm bracelet just like that.
Isn't that a coincidence!

i cant wear the bracelet, as it attaches itself to people as they pass me in the street, and all sorts of other things too.
