Poppy

9 January 1995 - 5 March 2009

The perfect dog for our family.

Brave, intelligent, devoted.

So many happy memories.

Much loved by us all.

Our home seems unbearably quiet without her.

Oh no!
Oh Alice...you must be so sad.
Love to you all. Poor Master P all that way away.
She was just a bit older than Willow. You gave her a good life.

I'm so sorry. It's never easy when a member of the family dies, especially one that loves unconditionally.

I do share your sadness as I always found Poppy a warm companion when she visited. However, this shaggy dog story may bring a wry smile. The RSPCA is seeking volutneers to tame abandoned dogs by reading to them. Ella Herring. who works at a Nottingham Shelter, said: "Some people might feel uncomfortable reading big novels to dogs, so they might prefer a story book." Perhaps Poppy is being read to in her doggy heaven.

I have just read the "paws for thought" entries over the years and seen what a lovely fun 4 legged friend Poppy was and my heart filled with sadness at her departure. My love to you all.

ps: I especially loved the photo of her with paws resting on the bath and the children's laughter ~ so glad you captured that moment! x

Oh, this must be a very painful time for you all. The passing of a beloved animal is never ever easy.

Dear Alice,
I have only recently "met" you, but know this loss all too well and my heart goes out to you and your family.

The house does get over that odd feeling of quiet eventually, if that is any comfort at all.

Oh it is so so sad when a pet dies. They are so part of your family. I treat my cats like my babies and my heart aches for my Bob who died last summer. Thinking about you all.

I'm so sorry for your loss, dear Magpies. Such a pure loss.

weren't you all lucky to have her, though.

And wasn't she lucky to have all of you.

Sad news Alice. So sorry.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I am sure Poppy is romping around doggy heaven, where there are lots of chewy bones delivered by postmen with tasty legs, so there is no need to be too sad.

Oh, Alice, I'm so so sorry. I have not been hanging about the blog scene much over the last few months, so I don't know if Poppy had been failing or not. I think about how we feel about our Quincy Boy and my heart goes out to you all over the loss of your dear Poppy. She couldn't have had a better, more loving and nurturing family than the Magpies. xxoo Ginnie

I think that this should be added to the record

I think we all had a lot of fun with Poppy and sometimes it is best just to have the memories, refreshed from time to time by MrsM's writings and photos

of course some of the best memories do not have photos to back them up. Examples that spring to mind are when Poppy took a very large mouth of four or five slices of fresh bread held by a elderly lady who was planning to feed the ducks (forensics would have had no problem matching her gnashers to the scene of the crime); the time when Poppy tried to jump across a puddle, missed and realised that it was a ditch and went right up to her head in water. She did not look amused when we all fell about laughing at her. She probably thought what awful people we were.

Although she got a little shortsighted she could still spot a Malteser from 50 paces and once knocked over a small child who was pootling along with a small bag of them in her desire to sate her chocaholic needs.

So sorry to hear of your loss, and that you were carrying the sad news with you when we met last weekend.

You clearly have wonderful memories of Poppy, along with photos, blogspots and stories. I hope these will give you comfort. My thoughts are with you all.
