Orchids

How do you feel about orchids?
Do you like them?
I thought I didn't...
but I was wrong.

This burgundy and ivory orchid was bought on a whim
and is a source of unexpected pleasure.
The tall sprays of slim green buds have opened
to reveal elegant, exotic blooms.

It is really called 'Bartley Schwartz'
which seems a cruel fate...
I think it needs a stage name.

Isn't that funny? As I grow older I grow more and more enamoured of orchids.

In honour of the word verification

Oh my goodness - you thought you didn't like them?

I have always loved orchids. Perhaps because they grow so easily in our tropical climate.

I want to go and live in the peppermint patch if it's warm!!!

Do you know why you never get little girls called orchid? You get lots of Lily, Poppy, Iris, Daisy etc but no Orchids? It translates as vagina, that's why!

They are very pretty though, maybe I should try and grow some....

Daisie - it's a load of balls actually. I'm afraid you have been materially misinformed

Oh I love them, I have always wanted one but am afraid I would kill it. I am really good at outside plants but always kill indoor plants.

This one is so pretty!

Glorious. I too thought I disliked orchids but last year discovered a new found love of a purplish white one which seems to thrive for me. The thriving is unusual in my house plant history and perhaps it is my gratefulness that has bred my love. I check daily, eagerly awaiting new blooms and when they finally stretch and arch I cannot walk past without stopping to admire. I rather regret all those years I shunned them.

I'm not that fond of them, myself. I don't have the green thumb to keep them alive for long. Plus, they always have seemed somewhat alien to me. Poshyarns, you are an exquisite writer! A stagename? well, as a theatre major, I would have to go with Cymbeline, a play that I worked on while at Hartford Stage Company.

The Germans love their orchids. I do, too. They have the most gorgeous flowers.

At the moment, I have six spread throughout the house. I love how long they bloom and how easy they are to keep alive...one watering, once a week with a good draining...and minimal sunlight.

A snap!

PS-Kudos to MrM. for clarifying.

oh yes, something far more darkly mysterious, exotic and feminine that it's given name which sounds like a a character from the Simpsons! x

I am very fond of orchids but I dare not have one in the house - remember what happened to the poinsettia?

And you can tellMr M thank you very much from me - his comment made me choke on my coffee!

They always seem like a very "grown up" flower to me and ceratinly very exotic!
