Lemon Curd

My lemon curd is lovingly made
from lemons, sugar,
eggs and butter
using a secret family recipe.

I know, I know, you are shocked.
I have let you down...
You are turning away from the screen...
"Shop bought!" you gasp.

Well, I'm sorry,
but I was desperate for a cream tea
and I couldn't face the washing up.

If it's any consolation, I visited the Tiptree factory once - and the lemon curd was definitely made by hand and two poor women were separating dozens and dozens of eggs. Think about it ... there's no other way to do it! And didn't I feel guilty about all the times I've moaned about bored I am at work!

It's like this is written in a different language.
Do you know, the DOG knocked a lemon from my lemon tree today AND ATE IT.

I've lost all respect for you (said she whose husband does all of the baking around here...).

Well in my opinion, Wilkin and Sons Ltd IS as near homemade as you can get without muckying yourself up with raw ingredients. Damn fine stuff.
Alice, we would still love you whatever jar/packet you choose to open

If you're going to use shop bought you can't get much better than Tiptree. Never thought of having lemon curd on a cream tea - sounds delicious. We have a local producer who make the most wonderful blackcurrant jam which has just the right balance between fruitiness, sweetness and suck your cheeks in sharpness - it makes the perfect foil for that rich cream - ooh my mouth is actually watering as I write

Yes, home made is better but at least shop bought lasts a bit longer before it goes off! I found some orange and ginger curd last Christmas - now that one haunts my dreams. Mmmmmm.

And is that clotted cream I can spy on the top? I take it's cornish...

Lemon curd is my favourite favourite favourite. So good I said it thrice. The only problem is that I can never top the lemon curd I bought 15 years ago from a funny little shop in Stirling - it was homemade by someone's gran and was just perfect.

What? You mean you can make it yourself? I thought it all came out of a jar.

I have this unshakeable image of MrsM as Little Miss Muffett - with her trusty digital camera not far from hand though.

Whey not ?

It is very good news to see that the plate are now dual function (scones and creme caramel) rather than being just for ornament which will never do.

I've never mage lemon curd, I would buy it from the supermarket. My husband however likes to make it and we currently have two jars in the fridge.

It looks yummy! Can you explain cream tea to me?

I wish we had afternoon tea here! I might have to start.

Oh yum. Can't get it over here!

I really would like to eat that! I've never tried lemon curd on scones but it looks perfect.

I'm so behind, I've just caught up. I am glad you are Magpie again, I hadn't changed my bookmark, it takes me weeks to do that sort of thing, I seldom vacuum under the sofa either and when I move house I have to redirect the post for a year.

I have enjoyed catching up, I try not to check your blog daily, I save you for weekly catch ups, I like to sit down with a cup of tea or glass of wine and relax with your blog, like my favourite parts of the weekend papers.

Lemon curd is an indulgence not everybody appreciates - but boy, I do! Yum!
