Dear Local Flower Shop,
I love flowers.
I really, really love flowers.
I love being given flowers
EXCEPT when they are half dead.
I am enraged that you could sell my husband
flowers with half the heads broken;
leaves so yellow that they smelt
and stems with mould on.
How dare you take his money.
If you were a food shop I would report you
to the Environmental Health Officers
and I would love to name and shame you...
The worst thing is that he bought them
to make me smile.
And it hurt me to tell him the truth.
But I didn't want him to waste any more money.
I have taken him on a tour of the local area
and pointed out friendly flowershops
which sell fresh flowers
rather than mouldy, smelly chrysanthemums
which are not fit for the compost heap.
Yours
MrsM

How *could* a flower shop do that? I hope you will share the response of the proprietor, should there be a response.
Ooh, that makes my blood boil. Er, with all the qigong and meditating I've been doing, I'm so tranquil that I suppose really it just makes my blood simmer a bit. But still...Poor you! Poor MrM! You sock it to 'em!!
And the fact that there is not even photographic evidence is really telling!
Oh no, how very sad!
Hope you still managed to find a way to smile through it, because the thought was there and I cannot remember the last time my husband had a similar thought, it was long ago. Now I'm trying not to be sad!
xx
I imagine that was some inner conversation! Tell him and cause him to be crestfallen and cross with the proprietor OR (to use my sister's phrase) suck it up and smile at the lovely thought.
Like you very sweetly and nicely I would have pointed out the good flower shops in town. Did you take them back and shake them under the nose of the florist so she could smell the stinky stems? Because you should have.
Such an awful shame! Especially since they were bought to make you cheerful. Poor Mr M. You certainly need a refund, at the very least.
I hope you gave them what for. How disappointing for you both.
What a shame. Can understand your dilemma at telling Mr M.
The wrong kind of smelly flowers. Naaaasty. Poor MrM.
But on telling the floral truth - I still can't break it to my husband that Freesias are not my favourite vase flower. Not at all. I don't really like them (though the smell is good). Sadly, he has convinced himself otherwise. Sigh - it's the thought that counts.
has anyone noticed that MrsM has just surpassed last year's blog total ? 222 post v 221 for 2007 - is this a tipping point ?
MrM clearly is not up for ikebana it appears
Will promise to do better for September ...
No point suffering in silence so I am glad that MrsM has piped or chirped up on this issue. Most men are not psychic so clear explanation is sometimes required.
I'm feeling indignant for you, and they're not even my flowers!
Bad flower shop! Bad, bad flower shop!
No matter how smelly or half-dead the flowers, MrM sounds like a very thoughtful husband...
I think that you should prepare a little map of the area, with good flower shops marked on it, and tape it to the outside of the window of the offending shop....
Help steer some other customers the right way.....
But how sweet that he wants to make you smile:-)

Oh Dear! I would complain.
MrM is very thoughtful and got you flowers with out occation? How romantic! What a lucky girl you are! :)
Photograph and shame...
the old adage of it's the thought that counts doesn't really apply when cash has been handed over!
This makes me sad and angry - poor you, poor Mr M; rotten florist.

I think you should definately give the flower shop in question a piece of your mind.............. especially as they ruined the moment of you receiving your husband's gift!
