Cuff Links

a Classical Education
it can be a bit of a shock to realise
that not everybody knows that
XL
means
40
in Roman Numerals.

...and 40 is, sort of, eXtra Large.

Ah, but what is the meaning of "40"?

Not every one knows what cuff links are either!!

Don't need them for our t-shirt culture...

Unfortunately I am only too familiar with the XL and the forty! (+ four)

I will have to get them re-engraved for next year as MissE made an innocent mistake last Sunday. I think I'll forgive her as I have to concede it is probably flattering me.

somehow 40-ent doesn't have the same ring as XL-ent . Beware the language of cuff links Chez Magpie!

Hum, maybe I should pass them on to my husband today ... Off to make the birthday cake and fish pie as requested.

It's a pity classical education has gone out of favor--everyone should know such things. The XL is feeling heavy though, I'm half way there--ugh! Happy Day ((HUGS))

I might have thought roman if it had the line on top and below the number, but otherwise it looks "extra large" to me as well.
