Berried Treasure

I thought that I had held onto summer

so tightly

that it could not escape my grasp

but I see that it has slipped though my fingers.

Love the pics, especially of the black berries. The first berry (eldeberry) has a special significance for me. My mother used to make elderberry pies. We would pick the berries for her (always found along roadsides etc).. and then clean the berries. She would make pies and elerberry pie taste best with sweetened cream on top (in my opinion. I have made elderberry jam, and I have made black berry jam also (your last pic is my favorite).

Thank you for these lovely comments.

The sloes were beautiful - but on the other side of a wide bank of nettles, quite out of reach!

I had never heard of elderberry pie before although I knew someone who used to make elderberry wine. Are they sour or sweet? I use elderflowers for gooseberry recipes and love elderflower cordial but don't pretend to make it myself!

Lovely berries - but round here some of the blackberries are already over & done with, and we are starting to sweep leaves. That's a wee bit depressing ...
